Lifeguard Conditioning 

For swimmers who are interested in preparing for the Lifeguard Training Course.  The instructor will work on strokes and endurance necessary for entry into the class.

Red Cross Lifeguard Training

These practices require strenuous activity.  If you have a medical condition or disability that might prevent you from taking part in the practice sessions, or if you have any questions about your ability to participate fully in the Lifeguard Training Course, you should discuss it with the aquatic director at 562-6218.

 

Participants must be able to:

  • Tread water for 2 minutes without using arms.

  • Swim 500 yards continuously (200 yds. crawl, 100 yds breaststroke, and 200 yds any combination of crawl and breast).

  • Swim to deep end; surface dive to retrieve, and return to the surface, a ten-pound brick from the bottom of the pool; and return to start.

Participants in this program must attend all classes without exception.  Schedule to be announced.

 

 

Participants must be 15 years old before the first day of class.  (Bring proof of age to water test).

 

Cost of the class includes books, mask, First Aid supplies, a pocket First Aid kit and Red Cross Fees. Please register at the Bucyrus YMCA Service Desk before the water test.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate.  The Lifeguard Training certificate, that includes First Aid skills, is valid for 3 years.  You will also receive a certificate in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for 1 year.

 

These classes will be limited to 10 students.
