Wow--Sunshine!!  On an uncharacteristically (for our event) beautiful spring day, with sun in the sky and temperatures in the high 60's, the Bucyrus YMCA held its 12th annual Triathlon on Saturday, May 29th.  The event, which consisted of a 500-yard swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 3.5-mile run, welcomed a field of 45 individuals and 3 teams. This turnout was our second largest ever.  (Since our "power of positive thinking" approach has finally gotten the weather issue down, we'd like to ask everyone to use this approach to "spread the word" for next year--let's see if everyone can come back and bring one friend to participate with them.)

The overall winner of the Men’s division was Todd Briggs of Grosse Point, MI (*), with a time of 59 minutes, 26 seconds.  Winning the Female division was Sara Colegrove of Grosse Point, MI (*),  in a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, 48 seconds.  In the Teams divisions, 3 to Tri from Hilliard, OH, won the Coed Team,  and the Y-Men from Bucyrus, OH, won the Men's Team.  The top Crawford County finishers were James Teynor from Galion and Sarah Nigh-Bruner from Bucyrus.

(*) Come on, all of you Buckeye State residents--how did we let these Michigan folks take the top two spots??  Let's get some serious training going for next year!!
We'd like to recognize a special group of people this year: we had 10 or 12 participants from Central Ohio who are associated with the Team in Training program.  Team in Training is an ongoing project of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in which participants get help in training for a major marathon or triathlon; in return, these athletes raise pledge money for the society.  To learn more about this program, visit www.teamintraining.org/hm_tnt .  Thanks go out to multi-year Bucyrus Y Triathlon participant Brandon Wilmoth for encouraging these people to come to our event this year.
